Early Literacy Skills
There are 6 Early Learning Skills a child learns about reading and writing before they acutally begin to read and write. These skills occur from birth through preschool age years. Reading aloud to a child is vital to language acquisition and literacy development for children.
The 6 Early Learning Skills are:
Print Motivation: A child's interest in books.
Print Awareness: A child sees words and understands those words have meaning
Letter Knowledge: I know my letters, letters have names, and they are seperate from one another
Phonological Awareness: The ability to hear words.
Vocabulary: I know words, the ability knowing names of things.
Narrative Skills: Being able to understand and tell stories
