Social Studies/ELA Work Session

PLC facilitated by Dave Johnson, NMLC Social Studies Consultant

Monday, April 16th   4:30 - 5:00 dinner; 5:00 - 8:00 work session
Incorporating the Common Core ELA standards into Social Studies instruction presents a big challenge.  We need time to think about how to do this and then time to work!  This evening will be a chance to work on creating some close and critical reading lessons using Social Studies primary documents.  Dave Johnson will be here to guide us in the process.

This is a technology class which we are offering for the 4th year now.  Michigan’s Mission Possible website provided the springboard for this class, and we continue to utilize the site for resources in all literacy, as well as technology.  Participants will attend five sessions where they will work on individual goals, as well as complete assignments from the instructors, giving them a useful look at what is available and how those tools can be applied to their classrooms to augment learning.  Special emphasis will be on Differentiated Instruction, Universal Design, and Assistive Technology.
