Qualifications:
According to Michigan law, all persons providing instruction at the elementary and secondary levels must hold a certificate, permit, or vocational authorization valid for the teaching assignment (R 390.1105).
To qualify for a substitute permit, an individual must have completed at least 90 semester hours of satisfactory credit consolidated at a regionally accredited four-year college or university. In accordance with existing policy, college credit is defined as satisfactory if it is a āCā (2.0) cumulative grade point average or better. Also, these credits must have been completed at or transferred to a four-year, regionally accredited college or university; they will not be accepted directly from a community college. The substitute permit is valid until August 31 of the school year in which the permit is issued.
For those applicants not holding a current Teaching Certificate, Coor ISD will apply for a substitute permit with the State of Michigan on your behalf. There is a $45.00 per year fee accessed by and payable to the State of Michigan.
If an applicant needing a permit checks "yes" on the disclosure conviction question, the applicant must provide a copy of the court documents. The acceptable documents include the Judgment of Sentence, Register of Actions, Certificate of Conviction, or a copy of the court docket. If the court indicates they do not have the court documents, a letter from the courts, on court letterhead and signed by the court clerk, is acceptable and must be accompanied with a detailed letter from the applicant which must include the offense, year of conviction, and the city and state where offense took place.

Required:
The State of Michigan requires all substitute teachers be fingerprinted via an
electronic process (Livescan fingerprinting) prior to the start of your
employment with any district. Please contact Diane Lippert at COOR ISD to obtain fee information and instruction on how to schedule an appointment.
